How to log strength training with Apple Watch, sets and reps included

marble has no Apple Watch app. Instead, the Watch records the workout in Apple Health, and marble imports it with its time, calories and heart rate. You log the sets and reps in marble on your iPhone. Garmin workouts come in the same way, through Apple Health.

How the pieces fit

Apple Health stores workout summaries: type, time, duration, calories and heart rate. It doesn’t store the weight and reps of each set. So the Watch records the workout, and marble records the sets. There are two ways to combine them.

Option 1: record on the Watch, log sets in marble

  1. Start a strength workout on your Apple Watch as usual.
  2. Log your sets in marble on your iPhone. Start a workout session, then use Save + Next or Log Again to repeat your last set. The rest timer runs as a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
  3. Import the Watch workout. In Log, open Import Workouts, connect Apple Health, choose a range (last 30 days, last 90 days or last year) and tap Load. Select the workout and import it.
  4. Or turn on Auto-import new workouts. Each time you open marble, workouts recorded after you turned it on are added automatically.

Each imported workout shows where it came from, such as Apple Watch or Garmin, along with its duration, calories and heart rate.

Option 2: log in marble, send it to Apple Health

If you don’t record on the Watch, turn on Send sessions to Apple Health. marble saves your completed training days to Health as strength workouts, with an effort score based on the RPE you logged. That effort score is what lets the sessions count toward Apple’s Training Load. Sets that came from Apple Health in the first place are never sent back.

Pick one option per session. marble never re-exports workouts it imported from Health, but it can’t tell that sets you typed in marble match a session your Watch also recorded. If you do both for the same session, Health will hold two workouts.

Garmin strength workouts

  1. In the Garmin Connect app, turn on syncing to Apple Health. marble’s import screen has an Open Garmin Connect button to help.
  2. After Garmin Connect syncs, your Garmin workouts appear in marble’s Apple Health list with a Garmin badge.
  3. Import them, and log the sets in marble as above.

Garmin keeps per-set strength detail in its own service, and it doesn’t pass through Apple Health. marble connects only through Apple Health and never asks for your Garmin password.

Limits worth knowing

  • If nothing appears, check that marble can read workouts: Settings › Apps › Health › Data Access & Devices › Marble.
